Be a Volunteer

Who are we?

We are a nonprofit serving a unique public high school serving older at-risk students ages 17-21. Our students are motivated but saddled with adult responsibilities that make achieving a high school diploma before they turn 21 very challenging. They need our help and yours.

How you can help?

Give Time & Expertise

The greatest need is for volunteers who have an interest in tutoring since two-thirds of our students are immigrants from over 40 countries who are trying to learn English. Others simply need assistance with general subjects like math, history and science. Standardized test and SAT preparation help is also needed.

Aside from tutoring, opportunities to sit on volunteer committees for fundraising and event planning exist in addition to mentoring - which can include activities such as helping students apply to college or prepare for the working world.

Qualifications:

  • A desire to help young adults.
  • No prior tutoring experience necessary.
  • Tutoring tips and training available as we partner with Learning Leaders, an organization that is dedicated to training volunteers.

When?

Come in and talk with us, we'll be happy to devise a schedule that works with yours. You can volunteer for as little as one hour a week and still make a difference. We operate from 10:00 am to 8:30 pm Monday through Thursday and Sundays during the school year. Summer hours differ. Please contact us to set up an appointment.
